Physics Education Students take part in the Online Professional English Network (OPEN) Program

In the middle of this year, the Online Professional English Network (OPEN) Program initiated by the United States government has successfully held various classes and training including English for Media Literacy, English for Business and Entrepreneurship, English for Journalism, English for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), English for Career Development, and English for Media Literacy for Educators.

This program is implemented boldly through a virtual class platform, namely Canvas, which allows participants from various parts of the world to access knowledge and skills from the material presented. OPEN presents highly qualified instructors who are experts in their respective fields, provides high quality learning experiences from various universities in the United States and provides opportunities for participants to have discussion with other participants from other parts of the world.

Physics education students have been actively involved in STEM classes which cover the latest and relevant material in the world of science and technology. Apart from that, the media literacy class that is attended also provides them with the skills to comprehend, disseminate, and produce intelligent and responsible media content in learning activities. The knowledge that is acquired in these classes proves valuable for the learning activities within the academic setting.

Learning activities consist of three sessions, which are providing material in the form of videos or modules, followed by assignments in the form of worksheets carried out by students related to the material that has been presented, and lastly quiz that will test students' understanding of the material that has been presented. Apart from the 3 mandatory sessions, each material presented will be provided with a forum for discussion with other participants and additional modules for difficult vocabulary that will be provided during the material.

This program reflects a joint effort to advance education in the digital era, where the knowledge and skills gained by participants are expected to have a positive impact on technological development and global sustainability. This chance hopes for a growing number of Physics Education students that will engage in international training and similar classes in the coming years.
